Broke People was founded to create space for new work! Since then, we've grown into a home for all theatre artists: playwrights, directors, actors, and techs. We focus on creating a safe environment within New York University for students to experiment and try new things, learn the beauty of collaboration, and enjoy the process of making a play.

Mission
Broke People Play Festival is a group of students whose goal is to produce student-written work in the form of performances, staged readings, and workshops. Through our process, we bring together theatre technicians, writers, actors, and directors to create new and exciting creative works.
Our Work
Every semester we produce a One Act festival featuring 5-9 fully produced One Acts plays acted, directed and written by students all across the NYU community. Additionally, we present 2-4 Full Length plays as part of our Developmental Series which allow emerging playwrights to go through a substantial workshopping process with a cast and director, who then present the play to an audience at varied levels of staging.
Every semester we are lucky to work with over 70 different student artists!
