Broke People was founded to create space for new work! Since then, we've grown into a home for all theatre artists: playwrights, directors, actors, and techs. We focus on creating a safe environment within New York University for students to experiment and try new things, learn the beauty of collaboration, and enjoy the process of making a play.
Our Work
Every semester we produce a One Act festival featuring 5-9 fully produced One Acts plays acted, directed and written by students all across the NYU community. Additionally, we present 2-4 Full Length and Developmental plays which allow emerging playwrights to go through a substantial workshopping process with a cast and director, who then present the play to an audience at varied levels of staging.
Every semester we are lucky to work with over 100 different student artists!
